Woah, woah, woah! Can a Jesuit have a blog? Is that legal? Let’s back up a moment.
Father Tom Widner SJ is the Director of Spiritual Formation here at Bishop Simon Bruté College Seminary. He has been a priest and a Jesuit priest for a very very long time. In fact, we commonly joke that he has been a priest, since well one could be a priest. There were tales of Father Tom being the creator of the Mayan Calendar, or that he once studied at the School of Athens. No one really knows where Father Tom came from, or how he ended up at Bruté though we all have our ideas.
One thing is for certain though, that Father Tom is a wonderful man and a great priest. Though he may be at the brunt of our jestful Jesuit jokes, he always takes them with good heart and can usually come back at us with something in return. Being the Director of Spiritual Formation at the Seminary and that he is the only priest who lives in house who can hear our confessions Father knows us all quite well inside the confessional and out. He always goes and gets his breakfast out of his apartment and will eat with us when he is at the Seminary in the mornings. He enjoys telling us what funny things happened on that day years ago, or what national day it is. He also enjoys movies, especially some of the older musicals. Before break, we watched White Christmas, and Holiday Inn with him during Finals Week. And on the morning of our leaving Bruté he went out with a group of us to the Midnight premiere of the Hobbit. Fr. Tom is a wonderful addition to the Seminary and I am personally glad that he is there… Even if he is a Jesuit. 🙂
I received notice that he now has a blog of his own and that he made his first post today. Congratulations to Father Tom and welcome to the world of blogging. It seems that when you want to blog about something, you never can because you don’t usually have time. But oh well. Here is a link to his blog and his first post on it: “STILL Living the Questions: Young and restless – older and sedate” Good luck Father Tom and see you next month!
