We will be singing “Long Live the Pope” on Thursday in honor of Pope Benedict XVI’s nearly 8 years serving the church and the world as the Supreme Pontiff. After consultation with our organ teacher, and the guy who will be playing the organ while I cantor, we decided to transfer the words to a tune that everyone knows. “Long Live the Pope is in 87.87D metric, so we looked at tunes that used the same pattern. The hymns: “Led by the Spirit, & I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say” go to the old english melody of: Kingsfold. Because it is in the same 87.87D index it transferred and matched the tune easily. So I spent my evening tonight creating a whole new piece of sheet music and inserting the lyrics to go with it. You can download it for free here.
